About
Founded in the fall of 2009, Hoot Magazine (Hoot) is currently the only fashion publication produced for and by Columbia University students. In addition to fashion, the magazine also covers cultural and lifestyle topics.
Hoot releases issues in the fall and spring semesters (both in print and online) and also runs a website and blog. The publication is officially recognized by both Barnard and Columbia and has produced five issues as of May 2012.
Taking advantage of their location in one of the major capitals of the world, students reach out to notable figures in various industries in the city while also highlighting those closer to home. What is also unique about Hoot is its strong alumni support, most noted with its cover stars varying in Columbia school, fields of study, and careers, whose experiences resonate with current students on different levels. Open to the entire Columbia community, the publication provides members with the opportunity to lend their skills and demonstrate their talent in writing, photography, styling, hair, makeup, web design, editing, layout, and public relations among others.
